Using Images in Your Posts and Pages

Why Does My Site Need Images?

Using images is quite straightforward and quick to do - and it can be done very cheaply (or even for free!).

Here are nine reasons you should definitely consider adding images to your content:

  • Images can be tagged with your main keyword and will bring additional traffic to your site – whatever else you say in your content.
  • Images add impact to the content on your site – they make an impression much more quickly than text.
  • Images create a positive impression – providing you’ve chosen wisely – a visitor is more likely to stay on the site.
  • Images convey a professional feel to the way your site looks.
  • Images can communicate more than text ever can – one image can convey complex ideas and evoke a range of emotions.
  • Images reinforce the message of your content and make it memorable rather than bland.
  • Images break up your text on the page and make it easier to read and digest so optimizing your visitor’s experience.
  • Images tell the visitor you care about them – you’ve taken time to create a site worth landing on.
  • Images can be used to add lightness and humor to your content.

What if My Site's Topic is Too Abstract for Images?

Using images may not be as straightforward for some niches.

For example, if you're writing about ideas, choosing the right image may take a bit more thought. You'll probably end up using images that are metaphors for your idea or topic rather than a literal picture.

You may not need as many images either. A carefully chosen selection of images in a few posts and pages may work better than an image in every one.

Inserting Images into Your Posts

You can use the WPM Advanced Wysiwyg editor to manipulate and insert the images into your posts. (Or if you have purchased WysiwygPro, then this offers even better image manipulation.)

FTP the images from your hard drive to the correct location in your cPanel (images folder in the Advanced Wysiwyg Editor, or ‘uploads’ for WysiwygPro), and then insert them into your content via the edit screen.

View site and refresh to check how the images look, and readjust if necessary.

Important: Google Image Search Optimization

Once you have some images in your content you can submit your site to Google Images so that visitors will find your site through image searches.

Don’t forget to check out your traffic results in your stats. Once you have a reasonable number of images in your content and you have been picked up by Google Images, you should start to see a steady stream of visitors from this source.
