What You Need to Know About Plugins

What are Plugins?

Your ASC site will come with the latest WordPress plugins installed and activated.

Plugins add functionality to Wordpress. They can be programmed by anyone, and there are hundreds of them that do everything from adding list building capability to your site to displaying your links and content in myriad different ways to help your visitors and customize your site.

At ASC we design our own plugins and use third party plugins - but ONLY after they are tested to make sure they won't break your site. Plugins are in constant development and we're always coming out with new ones you can add to your sites. They are installed on your new sites automatically and we show you how to use them in the training so you know what each one does and how they add functionality to your site.

Here is the current ASC recommended plugins list.

You can find and install other WordPress plugins that are not on this list - but be aware that ASC Tech Support can't support third-party plugins or help you solve problems they may cause on your site.

Activating and Configuring Plugins

If you ever need to activate a new plugin on your site, here's how:

Within your WP Admin – go to Plugins and you should see a complete list of all the plugins available within WPM. The list should be in alphabetical order.

To activate a plugin, simply click on “activate” in the right-hand column of the table on the screen. Once activated, the background colour of the plugin row will turn green. In many cases the plugin will also show up in the menu bar within the dashboard.

Complete any other recommended actions for each activated plugin based on the “Action Required” column of the minimum plugins list.

The process should be relatively trouble-free. If you encounter any problems, post a question in the forum as a first step, and search for previous forum posts.
